President Biden recently stated publicly that his administration does not plan to extend the federal eviction moratorium, which expires July 31, 2021. He claimed that recent court decisions suggest that they cannot act alone, and that Congress needs to pass a bill in order to extend the moratorium. That’s why we need your help!

Rep. Maxine Waters just introduced the Protecting Renters from Evictions Act of 2021 to extend the moratorium, but she doesn’t yet have enough votes to advance the bill. You can do this by endorsing Rep. Maxine Waters’ Protecting Renters from Evictions Act of 2021. President Biden’s plan to allow the federal eviction moratorium to expire on July 31 is dangerous and would leave the 6.5 million renter households currently behind on rent without a much-needed lifeline. The long-term health and economic implications of that are staggering. CDC Director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, recently said, “the Delta variant is more aggressive and much more transmissible than previously circulating strains. It is one of the most infectious respiratory viruses we know of, and that I have seen in my 20-year career.” Now is clearly not the time to strip back protections for already-struggling Americans; instead, we should be doing all we can to ensure that individuals are stably housed and thus better able to protect themselves from infection. I urge you to please support Rep. Maxine Waters’ life-saving piece of legislation.
