The House and Senate are rapidly making their way through proposals to address the housing and economic fallout of the COVID-19 crisis. We know that in times of crisis, hate and discrimination rear their ugly heads and crisis response proposals rarely are tailored to address the needs of those hardest hit. Those hardest hit include people of color, women, and people with disabilities. We are hearing about increased acts of hate, violence and discrimination against Asian Americans. Moreover, we know that in times of crisis, women are particularly susceptible to harassment. That is why it is critical that Congress works to create housing and economic stabilizing proposals that increase resources for fair housing. These funds are needed to enable practitioners to address heightened levels of discrimination, educate the public and the housing industry that their fair housing rights and responsibilities remain during this time, and ensure that federal programs being deployed are administered in a way that affirmatively furthers fair housing.
We need you to call your members of Congress ASAP to ensure we have the adequate resources to respond to discrimination in this time of crisis. Please prioritize outreach to the Senate but also make sure your Representatives hear about these priorities.
